Keep. Becoming.
Actor
Being drawn to the arts from a young age playing the violin and going to the local opera house, I took on drama classes for 4 years before high school. Being a Francophone school and studying French 5-6h a week, the drama classes were in French. This enabled me to travel around Europe for French plays competitions.
Programmer
My specialisation in high school was programming, so moving to UK for my undergrad degree I naturally chose Computer Science. Although the teachings were designed to develop a technical mind, my passion for coding was rooted in creativity, especially when it came to web development. Being able to create graphics, layouts and interactive interfaces with code, scratched that creative itch, while developing the understanding of the workings behind the tech.
Photographer
My creative side, suppressed after years of programming, started expressing itself behind the lens, through architecture photography, in my early 20s, when I visited Dubai for the first time. It evolved into people photography and portraits, and in my late 20s I got in front of the camera myself. Being technically minded I've always been drawn to the metrics that create the right environment for a good capture. However my overfocus on the technicalities of taking a photo didn’t allow me to enjoy the creative aspect of photography.
Bodybuilder
My poor health condition throughout my 20s, coupled with lack of understanding from doctors and my technical mind, led me to develop a deeper understanding of my own body - the biomechanics, the chemistry within our cells and the use of exercise for rehabilitation. Instead of taking on the only given option - spinal fusion with no chance of going back in the gym or even running, I took the long road of trial and error in rehabbing my body with the help of the one chiropractor who gave me hope. The gym is my temple, there was no way I was going to let that go.The side effect to that was a hyper awareness of my body, understanding the interconnectivity of muscle groups and how the muscle fibers work. My gym training became specific and laser focused. I don’t like being the biggest guy in the gym, so I often had to chance gyms to get more motivated and train with bigger guys than me.From that cautious rehab mentality I’ve had to have for years in the gym, I was suddenly being asked when is my next bodybuilding competition. Maybe soon …
Graphic designer
With my health recovered, and self awareness developed, I recognised that my thinking had become very structured, technical and scientific, and felt the need for balance. So I took on a postgraduate course with Edinburgh University College of Art - Digital Media Design MSc. Being top 10 in the world, it attracted colleagues that were true artists. It was the most challenging learning period as my technical brain wouldn’t get much structure, steps to follow or boundaries. Creating something through play and experimentation was a foreign concept, but it was exactly what I needed.
Videographer
Applying the skills from my MSc to photography through Instagram got me quite confident in taking photos, editing, creating my own style and look on the feed. Then TikTok came around and suddenly everything on Instagram became video based. It was extremely uncomfortable to learn video when I had just gotten comfortable with photography, but I quickly realised I like a creative challenge. After years of experimentation and getting comfortable filming, I decided to take on a Video Production course to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. Suddenly camera settings, lighting, framing, colour grading and playing with sounds and text became second nature.
Model
When it comes to modelling I’m always enjoying the collaboration with the photographer as I am aware of the technicalities behind photography. I’ve started off with sports modelling because of my built, but I am always interested in exploring how the technical skills from various disciplines can support the art of creation.
